I have arrived into Cairo
at 24th August 2006.
My
first time adventure to Egypt
has now begun.......flying into this country was simply amazing. The airport
was more then crazy. The touts were everywhere. While waiting for a driver to
collect me from the airport, loads of taxi drivers approached me in order to
get some business out of me. Thanks to the generosity of my friend Gwendelina I
was staying at Marriott hotel suite with her. “Gwendelina thank you very much
for allowing me to have this experience…”
Cairo is huge….
I felt somewhat nervous to visit Egypt – in fear that I would be
instantly harassed by men.
Egyptian shopkeepers will try do anything to get you to buy their goods. Cairo has the most
In-face souvenir shopkeepers. If you try to by polite but firm with them, still
you end up trapped. If you are woman then you end up being harassed by
shopkeepers at all times. This can be very frustrating and exhausting after the
whole day in the city.
Traffic
in Egypt
has to be the craziest I ever seen. Traffic lights were often not working and
even if they were working, they’d probably be ignored anyway. It was loads of
fun to get the local taxi ride. Once you get use to it will often makes you
laugh. It is definitely something that you have to experience while you there.
Only think that you can hear is sound of horns blaring around the city.
Our
trip to Giza to
see the Great Pyramids was just fine. On our arrival to the pyramids they asked
us if we wanted to ride a camel. “Oh, NO WAY, there is no way that I would take
a ride on camel”. Instead we took ride on horse carriage. That was enough of an
experience. Pyramids are huge. I really enjoyed it although our driver was
making us do loads of stuff. The place was packed with touts that were trying
to get you to go on camel rides, pursuing you to buy souvenirs etc. It is tough
to grasp the whole site in its true magnificent. It was impressive place to
visit. After making our escape from Pyramids we headed back to the hotel suite
to take a nap.
Legendary
Egyptian Museum. I have to admit but the place
doesn’t look like a museum. The place was overloaded and it actually looked
like warehouse. The rooms were dusty and badly labelled. I guess that is a part
of history. There was a load to see and it was magnificent place but it would
take a few days to trough the museum in order to see everything.
Alexandria is Egypt’s getaway. The driver that
has been taking me there was so happy to get out of Cairo for a day. I haven’t managed to see
anything in Alexandria
because I was visiting family that I haven’t seen for more then 10 years. At
least I managed to drive a car during the hectic traffic. Wow that was a great
experience……
Egypt was
simply amazing.
I loved the place but I was looking forward to go back to London, this place is just too hectic. I am
sure that I would love to visit this country again even though Egypt wears you
down. The flight back was more then just fine, I got upgraded to the business
class, yey!!
